Tayler Lockwood
22-year-old Tayler Lockwood broadcasts his hilarious comedy videos to over 250k followers. The Chicago native began his career on YouTube and started making TikToks through the “Getting TikTok Famous In 24 Hours” challenge. 26 million likes later, it was a decision that has clearly paid off. The social star makes content that he enjoys and doesn’t follow a certain niche. His commentary such rating others’ content and ridiculous pop culture satire are amongst the TikToker’s most popular bits. Now, fresh out of college, he’s ready to be even more active on the app. We recently spoke with Tayler about his content, life off the app, and more!
Did you have any specific plans or ideas when you joined TikTok?
I originally was a YouTuber (not big at all, I sucked haha) and there was a challenge last summer around this time called “Getting TikTok Famous in 24 Hours” and I really wanted to do it. I was very judgmental of the app at the time, and thought of it like Musical.ly, and not a comedy app like Vine. So when I downloaded it, I saw some funny videos and realized some parts of it were cool. So I posted 3 videos and none of them did well. Then, I ended up deleting all the footage for the video and moved on with my life, deleting TikTok. For some reason, a week later I re-downloaded it and saw my third video blew up. I was so shocked that one of them did well, especially since it was the video I put the least effort in to. Ever since then, I just kept posting and growing. I ended up deleting my YouTube because TikTok was more fun and easy to do, but now I kind of want to get back into it.
In what ways do you stand out from other creators on TikTok?
I think I’m different from a lot of creators because I don’t have a particular “niche” — I just post whatever I think is funny to me. My ideas just come to me randomly throughout the day and then I write them down and post them later. I use sounds but also speak sometimes so I’m just kind of all over the place. I feel like my most viral content has to do with school, or intrusive thoughts. I recently started reacting to cringey TikToks and those do really well!
Speaking of other creators, who’s one you'd love to partner with?
I love SnarkyMarky on TikTok. We both follow each other and I think it would be so fun to collab with him! I also really like Asher (@stinkyrat) who’s a really funny creator! A creator I think I would be good friends with is Jack Johnson. He was one of the first people I followed and our content is kind of similar. He seems like he would be really fun to hangout with in person!
Favorite non-social media activities?
When I’m not on my phone, I love to watch movies with friends, go on walks, swim, tan, go to the beach, and try new restaurants! I also love to travel with my friends and explore new cities.
What was the last song you listened to?
“Circus” by Britney Spears because it was in my daily mix on Spotify!
What’s a TikTok trend you don’t get?
I don’t get “straight” TikTok at all. Quite frankly, they scare me and I get second hand embarrassment most of the time.
In what direction would you like to take your account in the future?
I don’t think I have a “plan” for my content, I just want to keep posting videos I think are funny and hopefully they make other people laugh!
