Who doesn’t enjoy a good heartbreak hit? 19-year-old Sadie Jean brings you “WYD NOW?”, a confessional record reflecting on lost love. The song takes influence from Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridge’s lyrical reliability, with the artist paying homage to her high school breakup and reflecting on the raw and vulnerable emotions that came with its fallout. 

Lilyisthatyou represents everything right about the music industry in 2021. The artist came crashing onto the scene in July with the highly anticipated release of “FMRN,” an emotionally honest masterpiece exploring Lily’s relationship with sexual confidence and emotional vulnerability. The track’s uplifting instrumental, accompanied by contrasting, intense, and lustful lyrics, made it an immediate pop anthem.

Viral TikTok Moment Made Her Pop Music’s One To Watch

Singer/Songwriter Chloe George is the latest Bay Area native to achieve social media virality. Influenced by her parent’s love of music, the artist rose to fame after posting a TikTok cover of Kanye West’s “Ghost Town” earlier this year. The delicate version quickly became a Gen-Z favorite, currently featured in over 70k TikTok videos and recently surpassing 47M Spotify streams.

Francis Karel, 23-year-old viral TikTok sensation, is an up-and-coming musician from Jakarta, Indonesia. Penning his first track at age twelve, Karel’s passion for music has allowed him to take a leap of faith and move across the globe to study at the Los Angeles College of Music in order to pursue his dreams. He continues to reside in sunny Southern California and is currently working on his debut studio recordings which listeners can’t wait to hear.

Pop punk is not dead! The genre has resurfaced the mainstream and Swedish artists, Casper The Ghosts, and Canadian artist, Jutes, have collaborated to merge their similar yet different sounds to create their new single, “BAD.”

It’s easy to peg Kendra Jae as a “rising star,” with her recent breakout into the music scene, showcasing singles like “BIG” and “Seesaw” ft. Saweetie. But the artist says that this has all been part of the plan. 

One of the original kings of bedroom music, Anson Seabra believes that the setting has fueled his creative process. “It’s very easy, in the music industry, to get caught in a certain style of writing, especially when you do sessions in LA,” the artist explained. “Now, I feel like it’s kind of like an Olivia Rodrigo style, a more intimate, edgy (but not too edgy), vulnerable feel. When I’m alone in my bedroom and I have no other co-writers there telling me what to do, it’s very freeing.”

Twenty-two-year-old Fran Vasilic describes himself as just a “quiet kid making noise,” and lately he’s been making a whole bunch. Playing the guitar and writing poetry since elementary school, Fran took the time during last year’s lockdowns to finally put the two together and focus on music, a shift that culminated in his debut album, Retrovizor.
