Talks Paranormal Exploration, Surreal Industry Moments, and New Music!
Artistry without borders is seemingly the only way to describe the work of Kelsi Davies. The social media star celebrates a decorated resume across multiple creative outlets, making her mark as a choreographer, actress, and musician. In addition to running a successful TikTok and YouTube account, however, her talents stretch far beyond that of your average influencer – and it only takes a quick look at her content to find out why.
Talks Releasing His Best Song Ever
“I think I just wrote my best song ever.”
These words, spoken by TikTok’s generic text-to-speech voice (you know the one), are the first thing you see and hear in a TikTok post uploaded on July 19th, 2022 by user @jvke. The 21 year-old singer/songwriter/producer earnestly looks at the camera, instructs you to “wait for the drop,” hits the space bar on his computer’s keyboard, closes his eyes, and starts to play the air piano. The rest of the video sees JVKE lip-syncing, swaying and spinning to the first verse and chorus of his latest creation “golden hour.” The song had dropped just four days prior, and it’s clearly one that JVKE is proud of.
Is Pop Perfection In ‘All 4 Nothing’
Lauv, the pop sensation behind hit songs including “I’m so tired…” and “I Like Me Better,” is preparing for the release of his second studio album, ‘All 4 Nothing,’ later this week. Admittedly exceeding his expectations, the artist sees the project as a self-explorative work inspired by a challenging time; not only in his life but in the world as a whole. We recently had the opportunity to gain more insight into the creative process that inspired the album.
REVIEWS
As the sun set in Downtown LA, a crowd gathered to form a queue that stretched around the block. The air was tinged with restless excitement for Rochester alt-rock band Joywave. The trio––Daniel Armbruster on vocals, Paul Brenner on drums, and Joseph Morinelli on guitar––formally joined together in 2010 after playing in local bands with one another growing up. The group burst into commercial success with the electronic pop-rock song, “Dangerous”. An anthem of the early 2010s, the single shot to number one on the Billboard Alternative Song chart in 2014. The deep-cutting synth riffs reflect the angst of a generation growing up in the age of the internet.
EDITORIALS
I always thought my town had such interesting characters. It’s not the prettiest, but it’s special. All of the songs on ‘The Riversides’ are real stories I’ve experienced in my hometown. My main influences for this album came from listening to a lot of folk and country music with my family. As I close this chapter of being a college student in my life, the creation of this EP was a reflective experience for me to get closure on where I grew up.
Around a month after my last single “Nervous” was completed and released, I was in a weird spot mentally. I was very humbled by its reception from my regular listeners and the new ones I gained, but on a personal level realized how much my life contrasted with any appearance of comfort and ease I had in that time period of my life. Those people who were only there for any sort of success I experienced stopped reaching out.
How I Wrote: “Think Back”
‘Think Back’ was almost not going to happen. I was going through (as I think most of us were) a bit of an existential period in my life when my producer Christofi and I made this song. It was one of our last “quarantine writes” and for me, that process was not productive...I love nothing more than being with one of my friends, listening to songs that have been inspiring us, and then jamming until some, not to be completely cliche, magic wants to enter the room.
